About the Foundation
The National Defence Promotion Foundation was established in 2004 by the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Defence. The first activity was the acquisition of ten fully equipped computer classes for the Defence and Defence League. Since 2007, the Foundation has awarded the Officer of the Year and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year awards and carried out other recognition and support activities with the support of the private sector. The Supervisory Board of the Foundation consists of entrepreneurs, the Commander of the Defence Forces and the Minister of Defence.
The purpose of the Foundation is to support the improvement of the information technology equipment and training of the Estonian Defence Forces and the Defence League, and to help the personnel of the Estonian Defence Forces and the Defence League raise the general education, management and information technology education level, as well as to provide both former and serving servicemen and women and Defence League members with versatile medical assistance, including supporting their families, and providing medical and humanitarian support or making related services available to those affected by armed conflicts, including civilians, both in Estonia and abroad, and recognising servicemen and women and Defence League members.
Neither the Management Board nor the Supervisory Board shall receive any remuneration or compensation from the Foundation. The Foundation has also been on the list of foundations benefiting from income tax incentives since 2004, and under the 2022 exemption, donations made to Ukraine are completely exempt from tax.
